Updates Hub

Defender of the Crown: The Legend Returns left early access rumours behind and shipped on 13 August 2026. This hub is the news desk for the wiki: the launch post, the 40th-anniversary message from original art director Jim Sachs, and a readable version of the official FAQ. It is not a patch-note dump pretending a Tuesday hotfix already exists. When Nordcurrent posts one, this hub will point at it.

Launch week

The launch recap covers the “out now” note, the three-mode reminder, and Sachs’s recorded greeting. The package is on Steam, GOG, Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series at 19.99, with Steam’s intro cut to 16.99 through 27 August 2026. Forty-seven achievements and Steam Cloud shipped with the PC build. The studio’s public promise was post-launch support for bug fixes, performance, and technical updates — not a live-service calendar.

Official answers

The official FAQ recap restates, in plain language, what the Steam news post already said: not a remaster label, three games in one, Kingdom is a roguelite, the original story lives in Retro and Classic, original music is in the product, playtime depends on mode, Kingdom randomises events on a familiar map, Deck is supported without a guaranteed Verified badge.

The six official tips are the other pre-launch note that still matches the shipped build: every lord differs, start as Wilfred, never assault a keep empty-handed, chivalry pays, Precious Dice are not equal, Kingdom tiles expire, and Classic’s Saxon peace dies with the first Norman castle. As of 15 August 2026 Steam’s feed also carries a Rock Paper Shotgun launch blurb and the Jim Sachs film. It does not carry a hotfix number.

How this wiki will treat future notes

We will not invent patch numbers. We will not claim a balance change we have not seen. If a minigame is retuned, the joust, siege, and raid pages will move. If Kingdom’s calendar is eased, the Kingdom Mode guide will move. Until then, treat launch reviews and official tips as the current rules.

If you are here because the store page still looks like a wishlist leftover, it is not. The game is out. Take the Getting Started path or read the review if you are still in the shop. Updates are for people who already paid and want to know what the publisher has actually typed.

Between launch day and the first hotfix, the most useful update is still a better siege. Use this hub as a shelf, not as a feed you refresh instead of playing. When Nordcurrent types a patch note, we will file it next to Sachs and the FAQ. Until that note exists, the living documents are Getting Started, the review, the six official tips, and the official FAQ recap. The crown is in the keep, not in the news tab.
