Defender of the Crown The Legend Returns Saxon ladies, traits, and why a rescue is economy

Six Kingdom starting bonuses, Classic honour that pays, and nights that are not optional flavour.

Saxon Ladies

Official pre-launch advice from Black Tower Basement still holds after the 13 August 2026 launch: chivalry has its rewards. Throughout the adventure you meet Saxon ladies held by Norman lords. Rescuing them is written as honour. It is paid as stats, as starting traits, and — in Kingdom Mode — as letters that arrive when reputation grows. This is not a dating sim bolted onto a war board. It is one of the six things the studio asked you to know before you played.

Classic and Retro: honour that hits the ledger

In the 1986-shaped campaigns, a rescue peels off the strategic map into a night. Classic gives that night meters. The duel and raid page is the hands chapter: block, parry, thrust, and the corridor that used to feel like luck. Come home with the lady and the campaign pays you in the language those modes still use — leadership, fame, the kind of bump that makes the next joust or field battle less of a coin flip. Skip the nights and you will call the three army piles unfair. They are unfair if you treated every glowing rescue as optional flavour.

This wiki will not invent a 2026 roster of lady names the store did not publish. The official note is the mechanic, not a datamine. Play the event. Read the reward on your portrait. Then spend the month on army and income like someone who actually got paid.

Kingdom: six ladies, six starting traits

Kingdom Mode is explicit. Each of the six ladies grants a unique starting trait that can shape the rest of the run. They also send heartfelt love letters as your reputation grows. That sentence is the studio’s. Treat the traits as loadout. A run that walks past every captive because the fog looked pretty is a run that arrives at the first stronghold under-tooled. Timed map events expire; the Kingdom Mode guide already warns that wandering every misted tile is how you miss a lady, a relic, and a heart shop.

You still have to win the night. Kingdom rewrites raids and rescues as tests rather than 1986 pixel corridors, but the fantasy is the same: leave the strategic island, prove the sword, return with a bonus you will wear until the run dies. Hearts make failure cheaper than Classic. They do not make the trait free. If a tile is about to vanish, that is the month you detour.

Press materials for Kingdom describe uniting the realm by fighting enemy lords in their strongholds while facing brigands, rogues, and Norman forces along the way. Ladies sit on that road, not after the credits. Plan them the way you plan Precious Dice: early, on purpose, before the first named keep.

How this page sits next to Robin and the clock

Robin of Locksley, found in Sherwood Forest, pledges aid three times. That is a different scarce button. Do not spend a Robin pledge on a fight a rescued trait would have made honest. The campaign walkthrough is the Classic political clock: Saxon peace ends when the first Norman castle falls. A lady rescued during that window is cheaper than a lady you try to snatch after every banner wants the crown.

Achievements on Steam include a highlighted icon named Ladies’ man among forty-seven total. This wiki will not invent the unlock condition. If you are hunting the pile, read the achievements page and then play the nights instead of a checklist spreadsheet.

A rescue you can schedule

  1. In Classic, learn the meters on How to Duel and Raid before you chain three corridors in a panic.
  2. In Kingdom, treat each of the six ladies as a starting trait. Route toward captives before tiles expire.
  3. Do not skip sieges to “save time” for a rescue. A dead army writes no love letters. See How to Siege.
  4. Start as Wilfred if swordplay 3 still feels fair; Geoffrey’s swordplay 4 exists if the nights are the point.
  5. Read the six official tips when you want the studio’s shorter version of this honour lecture.

Getting Started remains the first hour. This page exists so a player who already knows the map stops treating Saxon ladies as cutscenes.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers drawn from official notes and launch play.

How many Saxon ladies are in Kingdom Mode?

Official notes say six. Each grants a unique starting trait, and they send letters as reputation grows.

Do rescues matter in Classic?

Yes. They pay campaign stats, not just flavour. Learn the night on How to Duel and Raid.

What are the ladies’ names?

This wiki does not invent a 2026 roster the studio did not publish. Play the events and read the reward on your portrait.

Is this the same as Robin of Locksley’s aid?

No. Robin pledges help three times from Sherwood. Ladies are a separate reward track. Do not spend one currency on the other fight.
